The Most Important Meal of the Day
We have always been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is important that we start each day with a healthy breakfast so that we can get the essential vitamins and nutrients.
Typically our body goes about 8-12 hours with no food in-between dinner and breakfast. This is one reason why breakfast is so important. We need to replenish our glucose levels (energy that fuels our body and brain) for the day so that we will not be fatigued.
By starting our day with breakfast we can also reduce snacking. You also tend to make better food choices in the day. Studies have shown that people who start their day with breakfast have an easier time maintaining a healthy weight.
Some healthy breakfast ideas are an omelet, english muffin, smoothie, healthy cereal, whole grain toast or bagel, low-fat yogurt, fruit, oatmeal and orange juice. When we skip breakfast we tend to be less healthy, can diminish our mental performance, make poor food choices and overeat during the day.
