Keeping Your New Year’s Resolution
With the New Year, everyone is setting new goals that they hope to keep throughout the year. We all know that it can sometimes be hard to keep them past January, so here are so ideas to help you keep your resolution all year long and hopefully get some results!
- Be Specific
When you’re thinking of your resolution, be specific. This will make your goal more clear and easier to achieve. When you have a clear goal, it’s more effective. For example, there’s a difference between “be healthier” and “go to the gym twice a week”. “Be healthier” can have a lot of different meanings, do you want to change the way you eat, workout, get more sleep and manage stress? By narrowing your goal with specific ideas, it makes it becomes a clear goal.
- Be Realistic
Sometimes we make a goal, but it’s a little unrealistic. Set a goal that will push you, but can also be achievable for you. It’s not bad to set a high goal, but if it is taking over your life completely or you find yourself failing the entire time, you might need to readjust it.
- Make it Measurable
This goes along with making it specific. When you have a measurable resolution, it makes it easier to achieve it. Instead of having a goal to “lose weight this year” make a goal to “lose 15 pounds this year”. By making it measurable you’re able to keep track of your progress and hold yourself accountable. If you keep it to something like just
- Make Time
If you don’t make time for your resolution, you won’t go through with it. Time is one of our biggest excuses we have. When you create time, you get rid of that excuse.
- Have a Plan B
Sometimes we get off track with our resolutions, so it always helps to have a backup plan. Life gets in the way and we get off track, so when you already have a backup plan it makes it a little easier to get back on track. Having a Plan B is also a good idea for when you travel or fall ill during the year. That way you know that you can still work towards your goal, even when you aren’t at home or completely healthy.
It also helps to write down your goal and put it in a spot you’ll see daily. Good luck this 2018 with all your resolutions. We hope that The Parks Health and Fitness can aid in helping you reach your goal by the end of the year. Happy New Year!
