Why Exercising is Good for the Heart

Exercising is a great way to lower your risk of developing a heart disease.  Research has found that people who exercise in any way are less likely to develop a form of cardiac disease. When you are physically inactive you increase your risk.

Physical activities like walking, running, swimming, participating in a workout class and sports are all great activities for your heart. Even taking a brisk walk can decrease your chances. When you exercise, you stimulate the production of new blood vessels which leads better blood circulation.

One way to know if you are getting your heart rate up during a workout is by the talk and sing test. If you can sing while you’re working out, you aren’t getting your heart rate high enough. However, if you are unable to talk or carry on a conversation, then you should slow down.

A healthy diet is also great for maintaining a healthy heart. Fruits and vegetables, such as blueberries, strawberries, oranges, carrots, asparagus, and spinach, are filled with beneficial vitamins and minerals. Fresh foods are always a great option. It’s also a good idea to manage your sodium intake. Too much sodium can increase your blood pressure, which can be damaging to your heart.

It’s important to take care of your heart. When you exercise and maintain a healthy diet, you decrease the risk of developing heart problems. It’s never too late to start taking care of yourself! Even starting small, like taking a brisk walk, creates a positive impact on your health.
