Everyday Wellness Tips: Food & Football Season!!

It’s September, so you better know what that means. It’s time for football season! Few things go better with watching football than grilling and cold beer, but with football being televised Monday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, this kind of eating and drinking can sabotage your health and wellness goals. I’m not going to ask you to sacrifice the things you love, but it will be extra important to try and practice moderation during the season.

Here are a few tips for a successful season:

Set an intention – instead of eating any and everything at the tailgate, set an intention to pick a couple of your favorites. This way, you won’t feel deprived and you don’t have to walk away feeling stuffed. Remember, this will not be the last time you will ever eat nachos and chicken wings, so act that way.

Don’t overindulge on alcohol – drinking too much disinhibits your ability to make thoughtful decisions. Try and limit your consumption of alcohol, and remember to hydrate with water in between each drink.

Get up and move – with all the commercial breaks and the long halftime, use these opportunities for something else besides using the restroom! Try throwing the football around with friends or challenge your partner to a planking contest. Either way, don’t spend the whole day in front of the television. Get up and move around!

Have a safe and happy season – Who Dat? & Geaux Tigers!
